Detective Unit
The detective unit currently consists of a specially trained police officer, Detective Colin Lawlor, who investigates major crimes and conducts follow up investigations.
Traffic Safety Unit
Officer Justin Lathrop currently serves as our traffic safety officer. He investigates traffic complaints and conducts traffic studies to identify and alleviate traffic concerns through the township.

- Officer Justin Lathrop is also a nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technician who is trained to assist parents with installing child safety seats.

SWAT
The New Hanover Township Police Department has two members on the Montgomery County SWAT – Western Region Team, one as an operator – Sergeant Michael Salvo, and one as a Negotiator – Officer David Fugelo. The Western Region team consists of highly trained SWAT operators and negotiators who conduct high-risk operations throughout their area of responsibility, which includes several municipalities on the western end of Montgomery County, including New Hanover Township.
Veterans Response Team
Sergeant Michael Salvo from NHPD is also a member of the Montgomery County Veterans Response Team, which consists of police officers with military service experience who are trained to assist other military veterans in need.
